In 2025, QUIKRETE® acquired the industrial site on Buckeystown Pike which has been in operation since 1956. The site began operating under Alpha Portland Cement which has roots in the region dating back to the late 1800's.
This area is home to businesses that produce stone and cement-based materials like ready-mix concrete, crushed stone, cement, and related products. These materials are required to build and maintain homes, businesses, schools, places of worship, recreational spaces, and local roads. We are considering the addition of a quarry to the land we own.
Co-locating these operations on a single site reflects a thoughtful land-use approach. It enhances operational efficiency while helping to reduce impacts on the surrounding community.
As part of long-term planning, we are evaluating how the site can best support regional construction needs by making the most of existing resources.
This includes a 175-acre parcel located along New Design Road at the intersection of New Design Rd and Harshman Way that contains aggregate (stone) reserves.
We are considering using this parcel for a quarry. The material could supply aggregate for site operations and local construction needs.
We are reaching out now because community input should be heard before—not after—key decisions.

We are committed to:
QUIKRETE, headquartered in Atlanta, is the largest manufacturer of packaged concrete and cement mixes in North America and a leading infrastructure solutions provider.
The company manufactures and distributes concrete, aggregates, asphalt products, bridges, underground infrastructure solutions, and more for homeowners, contractors, and infrastructure professionals across North America.
Currently, nothing specific is being proposed for approval. We are evaluating the creation of a quarry to utilize the stone reserves on this portion of our site.
Yes. We are evaluating an option to help secure a long-term regional supply as other quarries in the area deplete their reserves.
If pursued, it could involve most of the 175-acre parcel.
No, we are at the very beginning of the process, and community input is an important part of that.
There is currently no project timeline. Any future steps would involve further study, community engagement, and regulatory review.
Because early input leads to better planning.
We understand that topics like traffic, noise, dust, and environmental considerations are important. These—and others raised by the community—would be part of any future evaluation.
At this early stage, we do not have additional details beyond what is provided here.
We encourage you to attend the quarry workshop to ask questions and share feedback.
